Behind the Scenes: Crafting 'E.l.i.n.a’s Casebook'

In the creation of 'E.l.i.n.a’s Casebook,' I often find myself drawn to cases that stir a visceral reaction within me, guided by a combination of gut feeling and the emotional weight they carry. Delving into the complexities of criminal minds, particularly serial killers, has always been a cornerstone of my academic and professional journey. My intrigue in dissecting the character of criminals drove me to dedicate my MSc's thesis to exploring the beliefs and perspectives of serial killers. This fascination continues to guide my PhD research, where I focus on analyzing confessions of serial killers to unravel the psychological underpinnings of their actions. My journey as a criminal psychologist and criminologist has led me through the intricate maze of criminal behavior, motives, and the silent yet expressive narratives of crime scenes.

Profiling, in my work, extends beyond the perpetrators to encompass victims and the very essence of the crime scenes, which, in their own unique language, reveal the truths hidden in plain sight. The allure of cold cases holds a special place in my analytical heart. Their unresolved nature speaks to a deep-seated sense of injustice and a yearning for closure—not just for the sake of the victims and their families but as a broader societal imperative. These cases, left in the shadows by the passage of time and the prioritization of more solvable, recent crimes by law enforcement, beckon with a promise of secrets waiting to be unlocked. The intrigue for me lies in the challenge they represent: to piece together the puzzle with patience and precision, without resorting to conjecture.

'Cold cases are unfair,' I often think to myself. This unfairness, this lingering open question, fuels my dedication to exploring them in 'E.l.i.n.a’s Casebook.' My aim is not only to shed light on these forgotten mysteries but also to engage with a community of listeners equally fascinated and moved by the complexities of human behavior and the inexorable quest for justice. Through this podcast, I hope to bridge the gap between the cases that time forgot and the relentless pursuit of answers, fostering a space where closure becomes a shared endeavor.

Join me in this quest, as we delve into the depths of unsolved crimes and forgotten cases, seeking to understand, to empathize, and, hopefully, to bring peace to the restless spirits of the past.
